June 2025

Expand your understanding of music and build on your musical foundation. The curriculum emphasizes world music and improvisation, while building on your foundation of keyboard skills, aural skills and music theory. This course is an excellent supplement to private lessons and a way to make friends who share your love of music.

FAQs

  • When surrounded by peers, students tend to be more motivated and get more enjoyment out of each class. Making music in a group setting provides an element of connection that is often lacking in one-on-one private lessons. Additionally, group lessons are longer, meaning your child will spend more time at the piano in each lesson.

  • All classes will be at Northwood Christian Church in Indianapolis in the parlor room. The church is a convenient and family-friendly space. The church offers free wi-fi, plenty of chairs and tables for your use, and an outdoor playground. Classes are held most Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays in June at 11:00am-12:00pm. For exact dates, see the summer class calendar.

  • In Piano Side Quests, the goal is to reinforce existing skills while introducing students to musical styles and skills that are often not learned in lessons. Students will learn patterns from music across the world, techniques from 20th century music, new and original repertoire, and develop techniques for improvisation and composition.

  • Tuition is $340 for eleven classes and all materials.

  • You will not need to purchase any books or materials for this class. All materials and equipment will be provided. During class, students will use a personal keyboard with headphones. Each student will also receive a binder with any songs or handouts. You should have a piano at home or access to a piano in order to practice between classes.

  • Understandably, most students will have to miss a class or two due to illness and scheduling conflicts. Contact me when you learn that you will be unable to make a class and I will send you the appropriate materials so you can learn any and practice and topics covered in class that day. If you are concerned about falling behind because of missed classes, we can set up a one-time private lesson to get you caught up.

  • In order to keep two adults in the room, I always expect one parent to stay in or near the room when class is in session. Before dropping of your child, please check with me to be sure I have another adult present.

  • All classes are taught by Liam Brown, founder of Brown Piano Studio. You can learn more about him here.

  • Yes, all prospective students must enroll by May 11.
